Artist Statement

So many times we humans can get stuck in the patterns of relating to one another. The "good morning, how are you, I’m fine how are you." My latest collection of acrylic paintings " The Magical Mystery Pour" challenges the observer to be fearless, dig deep, and risk intimacy by trusting their perception.

Did you know that an average lifespan for a human on this planet is 27,765 days? Being put that way It is really not a lot of time. Now in my 6th decade there are less days ahead than behind. Time is priceless and I would like to spend mine working on what I’m passionate about, creating and sharing art in a community of others who are on the same path.

My name is Sharon (Mimi Fraser) I am a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and painter. Born in Boston, raised in Roxbury I now live in the West End. I am a senior in recovery from PTSD and addiction for 10 plus years now.  I began writing music as a child and have performed since the late 70s in Boston, Cambridge, Martha's Vineyard, and Nashville. I am a member of a Boston-based nonprofit called Tunefoolery. We are 60+ musicians in mental health recovery who perform in therapeutic settings, hospitals and mental health facilities.

I never thought I would fall in love again but 14 months ago I began my painting journey. I am self taught -experimenting with acrylic pouring, ink, collage, and abstract art. If you were to ask me why I paint, honestly i would have to say "I can't not do it."

My paintings reflect my curiosity of our ancestors, human perception and love. In my creative process I am always riding between two mindsets that seem to mirror daily life. Sometimes guiding paint, paper and ink with clear vision and intent and other times surrendering and allowing them to go where they will. I am never disappointed at the mysterious and otherworldly images that appear on the canvas when I let go.
